FAQs
How does the design process work?
We work in three different phases – Concept Design, Detailed Design and Implementation. The first phase creates the overall vision for the project, it answers the question ‘What’ should this space look like. The second phase, Detailed Design draws and specifies all the key elements of the design so it can be implemented. It answers the question of ‘How’ will the vision be achieved and provides enough schematic detail to source and build the look. Implementation phase procures and installs all the merchandise on site and ensures all trades have delivered the necessary works in order to support the end vision.
What is your style, and will my project look similar to your other projects?
All individuals, including designers, have a style preference they naturally gravitate to. However, the point of hiring a professional designer is to find YOUR style and interpret this so well that your space feels like it was completely designed by yourself for yourself. We will help you explore styles you like and dislike and from there craft a unique look that feels right to YOU
Do I need to provide my own set of spec and design requirements?
Often customers come to us with just a desire, an objective of design in mind. This may be a new build house, a restaurant or simply a refreshed look for a lounge or a bedroom. You do not need to provide a lot of information – simply understanding the requirement, what it is that you require designing and how you would roughly want the end result to look and feel is helpful. We will provide you with a set of feasible options and help you choose what is right for you and the space. We will work together throughout the journey – be it the design aesthetic, the cost or timelines. Key is your will have an accurate roadmap right from the outset, and understand what to expect before, during and after the project!
How do you accommodate project changes?
Change is inevitable but we know how to manage it. We project manage our renovations from start to finish and follow a professional change control process. This means that we work on version-controlled plans, costs and schedules so that you always know the impact to each should a change occur. You might start with a bigger scope and end up needing to reduce it or may opt to phase out the works. This is ok – we will advise you on impact so that you have all the necessary information to make the right choices.
How much do most interior designers charge?
It really depends on your project – it may seem like another fee to cover as part of your project, but typically the fees are covered by trade discounts your project can benefit from! You will also avoid the expense of rework if you were to get it wrong by yourself…renovating and building is always costly so the more you can ensure it gets done right the first time around the better you will be off, both from money and sanity perspective! Hourly rates in the market typically vary from £50 to £125 depending on the experience level of the individual. Each project we work on are offered on a fixed price principle – we estimate the effort required for each of the project phases and give you a considerable discount to fix the rate so that you always know what each phase costs. Additional works are charged on an hourly basis but always agreed upfront.
Do you manage trades people?
We can work with your own trades people or find resources on your behalf from the market. We can hand over all plans and management responsibility to the client (this works well especially in the commercial and hospitality sector where operators often have a team they regularly use) or we can offer a project management service to cover overall coordination on and off site, This helps to ensure the implementation takes place on time and within budget. We use our relationships within the industry to source everything you may need to bring your space to life and complete your dream project.
